Speaker is the one who delivers speeches. Anybody can become a speaker, but being an “Effective Speaker”, is an art in itself. A speaker is demanded to have variations in his/ her volume, have clarity in the voice and be confident while delivering on any subject matter. No activity can turn you into a charismatic orator (person who delivers good speeches) overnight, but it would make you a more confident and effective communicator.

Tips to “Be an Effective Speaker

Make Eye Contact
Eye Contact is of most importance while delivering any speech or presentation. It can rule your presentation or speech. One needs to give attention to the audience, in order to get their attention. The speaker should look at someone in the front, left, right, centre and back of the room. The speaker should have a sweeping glance at the whole audience at regular intervals. Making eye contact with your audience sitting in different parts of the room is crucial. This is one of the ways in which you can build up connectivity with the listeners.

Appeal to the Heart, not the Mind
Touching the heart of the audience is very important. One needs to build up such a relationship with the audience that you will stay in the minds of the audience for a longer period of time. This will unlock the keys to their heart. In few words, the speaker needs to arouse the emotions of the audience. Show how it relates to them. If the audience can identify with what the speaker is saying, chances are that they would be more likely to be convinced.

Conviction
The audience should be convinced with what you are saying. If one shows the emotions honestly, the chances of getting connected increases. One needs to put in emotional investment before one convinces the audience. One should be sincere and earnest and speak about something that you feel strongly about.

Vocal Variety
To fall in the list of successful orators, one needs to have variations in their volume. If there is no variation, then the audiences will be put to sleep. The speaker should not drone on in a monotone. As the speaker is demanded to change his/ her tone, speed (pace) and pitch of the voice.

Tone: As we are very much aware of the fact that the same sentence, when said in different tones convey vastly different meanings.

Volume: The speaker needs to speak loudly when he/ she wishes to emphasize or show that dramatic effect. One should drop the voice to the whisper to sound secretive.

Maintain enthusiasm and pleasant smile
Whenever the speaker is communicating, one should not interrupt or argue. The speaker is demanded to have great energy that can be passed on to the audience and a pleasant smile which adds a cheery on the cake.

Self Confidence is the key
As we all know that the key to our success lies within us. The speaker needs to believe in every that he/she does. In order to believe in yourself, one must be well prepared with the topic, one must be confident about ones ability and efficiency and the outcome would be positive as well.

Use the right language
While speaking few people tend to go overboard and end up using the wrong language and make silly goof ups. To avoid this, one needs to make sure that he/she is ready with a strong script that can be referred in the time of need. One must avoid using foul language or bad English. One needs to use simple and right language that the audiences can comprehend.

Having accurate throw of words is very important to make the speech effective and impactful. Its demands ones personality to be Confident, having Good hold of the language and Right Attitude towards it.
